Default Wolverine (Yamaha) rims are a garbage design

Man, went for my first serious ride today with the new 04' Wolvy. Good time, but what a sh*tty designed rim. The fact that the rim sticks out past the rubber is weak, and to *** to it the lip of the rim is single wall, hollow if you get what I'm saying. 3 out of my 4 rims have serious dents in them. My buddies Rincon hit the same sh*t as me and his dented, but like 1/5 of how much mine bent in. Cant wait for these tires to wear out so I can get a new package.

Same here, even a few bounces off stuff on the trail made my rims look like square blocks instead of wheels.I didn't even wait for the tires to wear out, I got some scratch 'n dent aluminum .190 wheels cheap from Rocky Mt. and got some reinforcing rings from OMF and had them welded in, then put Surtracs on, looks cool with the rings and new tires, more grip, and not one dent so far.

I think the biggest problem with the Wolverine's wheels are the low profile tires. This makes the rim sit closer to the ground. I read somewhere that the reason Yamaha went with the low profile tires was to reduce tire roll over and enhance the sportiness of the Wolverine.

I find this somewhat funny. I bought a Scrambler recently (about a Month) and have had a Wolverine for 7 years. my wolverines rims are scratched all over but i've never made a dent that a creacent wrench couldn't get out. I did more damage to the new looking rims on my Scrambler in one weekend than i have done on my Wolv in 7 years, and I ride the Wolve a lot harder. I also had a t-wolf for two years before I traded it on the Wolv, and I'm suprised it still held air. Just my $.02 on the competitive ATV.

Cresent wrench, I'll have to try that. I'm complaining mainly about the design. To have a rim that protrudes past the tire is just asking for trouble.

95wolv, can you tell me more about reinforcing rings? Maybe a link or something?

If I wanted to go with aftermarket rims/tires, what is the bolt pattern and offset that works with a wolvy? I'd be going with 25"s.

OMF has adds in Dirt Wheels, if you have an issue, you can find a web site and phone #, they also sell the wheel with the ring on cheaper than getting a new rim and having it welded, even with the cheap rims I found, the guy who welded it charged me a lot, I would have spent about the same having OMF do it on rims I bought from them. If you can't find it ,let me know, I'll email or pm you the info.
