Sportsman 500 electrical help
#1
I have a 1999 Polaris Sportsman 500 with low hours. For the past year the tailight will burn out, then the headlights, then the speedometer. The 4 wheel drive runs through the speedometer so when it burns out I loose 4 wheel drive. I have been through two speedometers so far. The dealer checked the voltage regulator and battery and said they were good. I have replaced the battery but still have the same problem. The electric start works fine and the neutral and reverse lights work. Any ideas? Thanks!

Thanks for the sugestions. I looked everything over and cleaned everything really good but didn't see anything wrong. I took it back down to a dealer yesterday and they are going to go over it again. I have actually already taken it to two different dealers. The one I bought it from is pretty good so I think they will eventually figure it out. I did take a look at the HOs but I'm not putting it on the trailer just yet. My 500 runs great except for the electrical problem. I did notice that there are a lot of Polaris threads with similar problems but not exactly what I have.

Good Man . NEVER assume your underpaid overworked mec. has recieved the training they deserve. The place with the Polaris sign over it should never,NEVER be able to give you a shoulder shrug. Fix it or hang up your tool belt, or Polaris step in and take care of a 6k$ Wheeler you let out. The new models are so mutch beter. I have a 2000. Wait for the 05 man ,changes on the way.Keep buying American brother.
