I was roaming around the old internet today and happen to stumble across something that could maybe end up saving some folks a few hundred bucks, if it works. While I don't know the exact details of what it is that fails on the 02-06 sportsman 600's and 700's ignitions but I'm sure some of you out there do. The RM system just uses the charging coil of the original Ducati stator for the ignition source since the charging coil is stronger.Problem is if the charge coil fails you're stuck,have to find another Ducati stator and I have had the charging coils fail before,even before the updated ignition kits were available. To me it's just a cheap bypass of a system that needs to be completely done away with and complete Kokusan kits have been around quite awhile that do this. Buyer beware on this imo..

 

I was hoping you were going to chime in on this OPT. I kinda figured that was what you were going to say though. Will the Kokusan stators not cross over to this setup? Or is that what the whole kit does and switches everything from ac to dc? Or is it just an all around better built system? It does seem that replacing ALL the components is the safest and only sure-fire way to go. It makes sense that it would work with how they worded it but I still had a sketchy feeling about it. Once I start to have problems with mine I'll just bite the bullet on the whole kit and do it right.

 

The ignition system changes to a dci ignition whether it's a RM or Kokusan,but they will not work with each other.The RM kits just use part of the Ducati stator for ignition. It's just a patch job or bypass imo. I've read reports on others having problems on the RM kits and like I mentioned if the stator coil goes out on the Ducati you have to find another used Ducati stator since it's NLA from Polaris or just bite the bullet and get the complete Kokusan kit that solves all this with the new stator,flywheel,cdi coil,reg/rectifier,wiring jumpers and instructions.It is the most surefire way of dealing with this problem.Here's one of the best videos out there on installing one also.

 

Will this Kokusan kit 2202602 work on my 2004 Polaris 700 Model A04CH68AO My stator Is bad and I want to replace everything.

 

Appears you have the updated ignition already as these models share the same stator as yours.If the stator shows faulty you don't need the kit,just the stator.

Thank you for the help. But for the price of a stator i could get the whole kit for a couple hundred more and have all new parts and start fresh coil, CDI box and regulator. What are your thoughts? the machine is a 2004 and pretty sure none of this stuff has been replaced.

 

That is a good question as the stator itself is pretty high. When you think about it yes you would get a new flywheel, cdi,coil and regulator for a couple hundred bucks more in the kit than just replacing the stator. These parts would certainly cost a lot more buying piece by piece.The more I think about it the better it sounds.. I would hope that the old cdi,coil and regulator could come in handy if ever needed also.
