new to forum, couple questions on a 83 185s
#1
ive had a 83 185s for a while i blew a gasket so im in the process of rebuilding it,
so what im wondering is:
My boss is selling a big red (250 i think) but i think he said the carb isnt working he said he tried a different carb on it and it worked so he went to a guy that rebuilds carbs all the time and said he doesnt c anything wrong with the carb so hes selling it and im thinking of buying it for 200(canadian)
so i was wondering is it posible o use the 185 carb on it??
next would it the big red fit on the 185 frame without too much work??( like i can weld brakets and other stuff)
so there it is ( sorry for the long post)
also my chain is pritty loose should i buy a new one or try to shorten it?
also rear bearings are gone any tips on replacing them?
sry for the long post
any help or suggestions will be apriciated
thx

Let me first say welcome to the forums!! There isn't a better forum out there regarding ALL three wheelers.
The 250 BigRed you are interested in has nothing in common with the 185S. Chassis or drivetrain.
With all the modifications needed to make it work, you would end up with a trike that was 80% BigRed and only 20% 185S....if that much.
$200 Canadian isn't bad for a 250 BigRed with carb problems. If you can't afford to fix and keep both, sell the 185S and use that money to get yourself a new carb for the BigRed.
As for the chain, as long as the rollers aren't worn, taking a link out of it isn't going to hurt anything.
Rear axle bearing replacement is pretty straight forward. The toughest job will be getting the brake drum loose from the axle so that you can slide it out.....unless you are one of the lucky few that has the brake drum slide right off the axle.
Good luck

wow that was fast
thx for the info
um i got another couple questions i thought of while i was in the barn checkin out my engine witch is in about 300 pieces
1) for some strange reason when i was takin the engine apart i decided to see whats on the other side of that metal thing thats the pull start is atached to
so i unscrewed these little screws that seem to hold some sort of magnet and wire and now the magnet is like moved,so im tring to move it back and get the screws back in so can u take that metal piece out without takin off the crank? or any way to get those stupid scews back in??
also by moving them did i screw it up bad or not aslong as i get it back?
thx
2)when putting it all back together is it like a car and every thing has to be torqhued troperly or can i just titen them until i think its about to break
if they have to be torqued does any one know where i can find one for free on the net?
again sorry for long post and thx

Welcome to the forums, I am a newby myself. Personally I would keep the 185S and sink the 200 into it and not worry about the Big Red. I used to have one myself and I put a little cash into it (bored it to a 200, a hot cam, cobra exhaust, a K&N and a rejet) and it was actually pretty fast. I ran up on a blaster rolling chassis and put that motor on it and sold it for a pretty penny. But to get back to your post, I beleive the screws that you took out hold your stator in place, if you can't get the back in you might have to remove the mag to gain access and to do that you have to purchase or borrow a special puller. I wouldn't recommend tightening the bolts until they feel like they are going to break either. Get on ebay and pick you up a repair manual for $20 bucks. They really do come in handy. As far as replacing the bearings, just get a good sized hammer and a long punch to drive out the old bearings which are more tan likely rusted in. When you are installing the new one's try to get a socket or something the same size as the outer part of the bearing to drive them in. Good Luck
