Default Shipping an engine?

Anybody have tips on shipping a raptor motor? I'm planning on making a crate unless I can find some kind of container that will work.

I built one out of 3/4 plywood and some 1by1's to support it inside. I used some carpet padding on the inside to cushion it. Just make sure to use corner braces where you can. Also dont make it more than 22 inches either way or UPS will charge more. Remeber to it your EXPENSIVE engine your shippng. Mine weighed about 130lbs or so complete.
Just courious where are you sending it?

Well if you want to do what I did,,,,, I sent him the motor in pieces.... hehehehe I think it went in about 5 boxes. Or you can try my friends shipping and go purchase you one of those Rubber made tubs and wrapped his motor with a sleeping bag (an old one of course) and zipped tide that thing shut. It came back in the same box nice and comfy....

Why don't ya just ship him the top end and goto Raptortranny.com to get instructions on the tranny upgrade and do it yourself while the top end is gettin done? Save ya a bunch of money. It might even be cheaper to take the tranny to a local mechanic and have him do it.

Ya, I've considered that too BigBubba. When I figure it all out I still don't know if I would really save that much money unless I put it together myself. I was just figuring if I was doing the tranny, rod, balanced crank etc... that I might as well have them do it all.

here is what i did when i sent my motor to sparks racing in california. I live in Connecticut, so my motor went completely across the usa....i purchased two heavy duty cardboard boxes. the smaller box was just big enough to drop the entire motor into.....packed that completely with crumped paper. I used drafting type paper, because I had trash cans full of it at work......the second larger box was 1" bigger than the small box in all the dimensions. I then purchased a peice of styrofoam and slipped it between the two boxes on all sides.....taped up all the edges and corners.....my motor came back in perfect shape...the boxes help up great and even curtis told me that it was the best packing job he had ever seen. total cost of the material was 40 dollars....well worth the expense....the shipping for round trip was 600 dollars.......

good luck
herbdon out...........

Shipping my Banshee engine from Montreal Canada to the state of Washington and back did cost me 500US $$ using UPS world wide express, if i had used UPS ground the cost would have been much less around 200$ i think.
