Default A little help with springs for trail ported 400

I'm in the middle of rebuilding the top end and I figured while I was in a tinkering mood to check and see what springs I had in the primary and secondary ( I know that I have a Violet in the secondary which is the one that came with HPD trail clutch kit). I think I have a brown spring in the primary which I also ordered from HPD after trying the red/yellow primary spring that came with the trail clutch kit. I tried the red/yellow with the violet secondary, but I always had to use the reverse override button to get it to move anything above a snail's pace in reverse so I went to the brown primary.
I guess what I would really like is better take off, but yet not have to use the reverse override button to get it to move at a decent speed in reverse. I'm running a 270 main jet, but can't remember where I have it clipped. I'll take suggestions on where I should have it clipped as I'm putting the carb back on tomorrow.
The mods I have are listed below so I won't bother listing them again.
I have two questions for ya'll. #1. Using the violet secondary spring and red/yellow primary(HPD springs) which hole would you recomend putting the violet spring in in the secondary for best results? Same question but using a HPD brown spring in the primary? #2. Do any of ya'll have the same setups or have had the same setups and could you relate the results?
Thanks again. Ya'll always do a great job here!

Had the same problem on our HPD modded 2001 250 TB.Couldnt get the bottom end lined out using the brown spring but it was great with the re/yellow but have to use override button to back up.Like completely bypass the overide but not sure if it is the same as the old models to do.Anyone know?

Cant remember where we keep our clip on our's either, but I have never had to run over a 260 main jet, although every bike is a little different. I keep the secondary spring at 2-2 for the kind of riding we do. I use the polaris brown spring with the stock weights in my wife's scrammy. It doesnt have quite the snap of the red/yellow, but it is right for her and the kind of riding she does. I'm with ftwflh, you should be able to disconnect the reverse pretty easy, then you could run the spring you want but not have to worry about holding that darn button.

you gotta throw out that spring and put a blue HPD primary in there,,
engage at around 4000 rpm, perfect for trail riding.
as far the pulley calibration,i wouln't go higher than 2-1 setting for less belt slippage.at least 270 to 290 main jet on a trail pipe,,stock car.

270 to 290 may be good for you, but remember that he is the farthest south in the US. Weather gets warm and humid here.

Thanks for the input on the springs and jetting. Would any of you know right of hand at what rpm the reverse overide switch has to be engaged? Just asking because if the HPD blue primary kicks in at a lower rpm than the red/yellow, then it may be the ticket for me as I would rather not have to use the reverse override button for backing up and I'm sure it's better than the brown HPD I got in it now.
