Is the yamaha raptor reliable?
#1
I just want to know if its reliable...I'll be shopping for a new quad...I love the looks of the raptor, I love the low end torque it has...I'll mostly be doing trail riding..a little mx...dunes...and some dragging...I want a really reliable quad...but I keep hearing from people about the "craptor" and how they keep breaking down and you seem to always have to fix something on it...If I get one it will be an 04.....but I want a very reliable quad...because I know when I buy a new one, I will be broke and I wont have the funds to fix stuff on it all the time..So send me your info please!

I have 118 actual hours on my 03 and have had no problems. The only problem I expect is the one way bearing but I believe that was changed slightly on the 04. I believe any machine can be reliable if properly maintained.

Ridden w/ 5 Raptors in our group and surely enough after 2 seasons only 1 03 has taken a crap which was a freak accident. So I'd say they are reliable.

I have an 01 and had a few issues with it. Not sure about the later years but make sure that axle nut is always on tight and the one way bearings tend to go (not a cheap part nor easy fix). Raptor is a great trail bike, narrow, gobs of low end torque front end comes up on demand.
Dual carbs is a pain in the ****.... other than that.. it's a fun bike. I'm sure you'll enjoy it. I still prefer it over a YFZ.
