It is probably because your four wheeler is sucking water, this causes sputtering and loss of power. You can locate the top of you air breather and see if this is dipping under. Once my trail boss sputtered every time i hit a mud puddle fast, and on closer inspection i realized the air breather was not properly connected to my carb, allowing it to suck water every time it splashed up.

Mine did that and someone on the forum advised me to fill the spark plug boot with dielectric grease. I did that and have had no problems since. I bought it at Advance auto. The guy who gave me that tip said all serious mud riders do this...

adding the grease waterproofs the plug, thats a good idea.

I had the same problem and tightened the rubber boot from the carb. and it seems to have helped no sputter yet. I am going to try the dielectric grease idea too!!

Be sure you check the clamps for the air intake on the tranny. I found mine to be quite loose, as well as the exhaust clamp for the tranny. The die electric grease is a good idea for any electrical connection that could get wet
