The prairie 700 will flat out kill a sportsman 700 in a drag race! My buddy has a stock p700 and another friend has a sportsman700 with a biggun exhaust, jetted and a k&n filter and it still don't stand a chance. I have seen it happen, the p700 kills it outta the hole and just keeps pullin away. His p700 was even about 2-3 mph faster on top end too. Even my little p650 will kill his sportsman700. I have alot of mods now, but even when we were still stock it was no contest, I would kill him outta the hole and keep pullin, but if we raced far enough he would start to catch up because he was always about 2 mph faster on top end. Last weekend we rode together for the first time since I got my cdi, we were ridin down the road on our way to the trails and we were cruisin along at about 45mph and he does his usual thing and pulls out to pass everyone, (he loves to talk about how his is 2 mph faster than mine on topend) man it sure was sweet when I caught up to him and flew past like he was in reverse.

It's common knowledge that a Sportsman 700 isn't much faster than a 500 H.O., and I can tell you that when it comes to speed, my Prairie 700 will annihilate my Sportsman 500. The Prairie weighs 602 lbs. The Sportsman 700 is 720 lbs. In defense of the Sportsman, when it comes to deciding what quad you want your a$$ on for an all day ride, I take the Polaris. If I want a white-knuckle ride, then it's the Prairie.

I used to have a Sportsman 700 2002 with some mods in the clutch(helix, weight and springs), it was pretty fast! I was smoking my friend Steven on his P650 (stock)on long logging roads, he was eating dust all the time. I was close behind my other friend with a Bombardier Quest 650. Now Steven & me traded our old 2002 bike for the P700 we are pretty close but he is 70 lb lighter than me but we are still behind the Quest 650 (on a long road not for takeoff).
On a long trip on long logging road, the 500HO is faster than my P700 with the tire upgrade(not for takeoff)!!
For the drive, I drove both and the p700 is as soft as the Sportsman700 but the seat and driver position is better on polaris. independant suspension is good when you are climbing, tire are more in contact with the ground than with a straight axle but you have more twisting of the bike when cornering with an independant suspension.
I have a ice fishing camp that I set on the Bay in the winter time, to pull my heavy camp on ice, the Sportsman700 was a lot better than the P700(too light).
The good tings about the P700 is: it is light!! lighter stearing than the sportsman 700 (I used to have tenis elbow when driving my polaris) Lighter to pull out of the snow!! it is quick for takoff and "belly buster" acceleration. and you have the Kawasaki reliability!!!!
Another thing is the engine is de-tuned on the p700 but it is easy to modify it to get the full potential!!
I tried the new Sportsman 700 EFI it is very fast and a lot quicker than the carb model, now it is very close to the p700(stock!!) for takeoff and acceleration. It is tracking very well in soft snow and mud because it is a lot heavier!
I liked my polaris 700 to work hard and for serious mud boging (20%of the time) but I prefere my p700 for trail riding and playing around in pits and mud (80% of the time)
