Stuck cable? Air leak in carb?
#1
I went riding today, all was going great until I opened it up down a road for 1 mile. Once I came to a stop I noticed it was revving higher than normal, so I went to turn my idle screw down and nothing happened. So I turned around and headed home. On the way home I slowed down a few times and it took alot of time to bring the RPM back down but it would not go down to normal.
So I stopped and look at the carbs, I noticed it was wet on the bottom of the front carb and I could smell gas. So I think the front carb has a leak, started it up, drove it home. Washed it and parked it in my garage. I tightned all the carb screws, some were a tad loose. I started it up and it was still ideling higher than normal.
So I have to wonder what is up? Will an air leak in the carb cause higher idel? Or is it just my cable some how not closing all the way? Do you think I may have some dirt in my carb? Sand? Let me know what you guys think on this.

Checked my throttle cable, looks good. Checked my choke cable, nothing seems to be wrong there. Removed the cover off the front carb, the jet side. Looked at it, pushed the float around a few times. Checked the jet. Everything looks fine. I put the cover back on, tighten the screws, fire it up. Idles at normal levels, sorta.
While I was on the road I was playing with the idle adjuster thinking it was set higher, the reason for my high RPM. So I backed it off alot, I'm wondering if it was to much. Now I'm reving a little low and when I try to adjust it with the idle **** it doesn't affect it.
Did I turn it out to much? Is that possible? If it is possible I may have turned it out to much and it may of unscrewed or something? I can't go for a test drive to see if my high idle will come back or not. So I hope thats fixed.
I'm going to look in my P650 service manual and see what it says.

i believe that you have a choke sticking and it will rear its ugly head again, time to fix it with a set of new springs. mine were so bad i unhooked them. i also have a suzuki motorcycle with a single carb that sticks and sometimes i just pull the choke on again and then back off, it cures it but its a different type of choke cable set up, its a straight pull .

Brent the screw on the side only does minor adjustments,The one that comes off the handlebar throttle is where I had to adjust mine when new.Try adjusting up top some & then do the fine adjusting down below with the screw

I'm talking about the big black **** with a cable attached to it that goes to the front of the carbs. That has zero affect on my idle. I'm only aware of this, that can change my idle.

Yes I had the same problem with minw after 1 hr of riding. We adjusted the cable assy up top a the thumb throttle control, pull back the rubber cover on the throttle cable and adjust it there first and then go back down to the big black **** attached to the cable. The upper adjustment takes slack out of the thumb throttle.

Just adjusted the nut, it fixed the problem. I don't know if this is a fix or not though. It seems like a work around. I still have zero control over idle with that black ****. I used be able to change the idle ALOT with that black **** but now it doesn't affect it in the least. There is still a problem here and I'm wondering what it is.
