'02 Sportsman 700 Battery Icon with Noise
#1
I recently purchased an '02 Sportsman 700. On occassion, when I first start it up my battery icon will flash and there will be a crackling sound coming from the right side of the motor. After running the engine for awhile the sound will go away and the battery light stops flashing. Does anyone have any suggestions for a novice? One last thing, is this model known for being hard to shift?
Thanks,

Mines not hard to start but I did have a problem with the rubber around the key sticking and it staying in the "start " mode for a couple extra seconds before I noticed it and the battery light was on and the battery discharged and needed to be recharged. IT ALSO MADE A WEIRD NIOISE. The dealer shaved the key rubber and I charged the battery and it was fine. I hope I didn't do any starter damage with it staying engaged for the extra time after it started. No problems to this point and it happened a couple years ago.

Thanks for the information. I have noticed that sometimes when I first start it up without pulling out the chock that it may die, but the starter is still cranking. This may be part of the problem.
