yah i know this is a common question but I need to know. i am kinda on a budget so nothing like racing shocks or any thing over 400$ could any one help me out with mods that will produce a noticable amount of power gain. thanks it is a 1986 lt250R n with no mods yet
I already know a pipe and silencer should come first but what could i do befor that.

Along with the pipe put on a filter. With more exhaust flow you need more air flow. Are you looking for engin mods or other mods, like bumpers, grabs bars, and nurfs. If so all these are option. For the engin you can install reeds (and cage) spacers, or even a larger carburator. If you really feel like producing some power then you can get a port/polish job. . .you'll be screamin then. pipe it, get reeds piston, clean up the casting flaws on your cylinder ports... o and get some white plastic its faster since the sun isnt attracted to it as much so therefore less friction LOL im only foolin.but deffinatly do the first stuff!

You cant put a reed spacer on the 86.
Here is what you need to do. I have a 86 as well so I know.
FMF pipe. $75-$200 depending on where you get it.
Basically the only aftermarket pipe around for the 85/86. Unlesss you want a drag pipe, or find an old pipe of another company on Ebay
Boysen reeds. You need to remove the cylinder, so you will have to buy a new base gasket. $40(reeds and gasket)
Air filter: If you never see mud or ride in the rain(long shot for washington) ditch the air box and put a clamp on K&N filter with outerwear. Or keep the box and ditch the lid. IF you see mud/rain, keep the lid but drill 4-6 1" holes and get the foam breather kit. $30-$40
Carb-Get a Keihin 35mm PWK. Greatly improves response and top end power. You will need to purchase a Boysen float bowl to make it fit correctly. Carb-$50-$70 on Ebay. Float bowl- $50.
With these mods you will feel a big difference and it is in your $400 budget.
First of all make sure you top end is good. Get the compression checked. If you need a new piston, that will help with power. Basically get the motor fresh, then add mods.
Look at my mods and it gives a good list of things to do

There is a shop around here that orders from a place called T-Bo.
Its located in Quebec and has great prices. Its hard to find places to order from in Canada with out having to pay all kinds of duties and taxes because it comes from the states..
Here is the site http://www.importationsthibault.com/
I am always up for some new riding...I'll defently have to come down sometime.

thanks for the site man! its times like these i hate having a 20 year old bike, they dont make the nerfbars for the lt250r's lol and they looked so nice. yea im tired of riding with a bunch of 4 strokers, not only are they slow, but they all have big gun exhausts or dg's (which acually sound great) but there so damm loud i can be 200 feet infront of them and they still drown out the sound of my 2 stroke lol
p.s. im not in school cuz i got a root canal, but it worked out for the better i just bought 18' turftamers and 8" itp rims from toronto off ebay for 85 bucks canadian!!
