outlander doesnt want to idle
#1
my brother in law has a 2004 outlander 400. it doesnt want to idle. if he puts the choke on about halfway it idles fine. does anyone know what the problem might be? he has owned it for about 5 months now and everything seemed fine until the other day. thanks

Sounds like the pilot jet is plugged. And when the "choke" is on, (its really a starter jet, or enrichener), it adds enough gas to idle on.
These sites should help you and him get aquainted with what you have to do. Its not a big deal, but the pilot jet will need to come out to be cleaned. The hole thru the pilot jet is very small, and it doesnt take much crud ( dried gas) to plug it up. A good way to prevent this from happening again, is to leave the float bowl dry after riding. Theres a drain tube on the float bowl for draining it dry after use.
