My advice would be to follow the clearance the cam directions gave you. Did you make sure the feeler guage had a slight tension when you pulled it between the screw and sub rocker? It should only have a light resistance when pulled out. There will probably be a difference between the intake and exhaust clearance also, so be sure you didn't use the same for both by accident. If you just placed a higher compression piston in it could just be that the octane level isn't high enough. A 10.75 to 1 should use 93 (premium) and the race piston (12comp) should use race gas mixed with premium. Did you also do the break in period when starting it the first time? You should probably have had the engine always reving at a high idle for 15min before riding. Another problem I know about with the web race cam is the head must be modified for the larger lobes on the cam (metal must be grinded out, which hopefully isn't your case!!!). Be sure to check all the above, I just rebuilt a 400EX with a friend of mine and these were the guidelines to follow, except the bit about the warrior needing the head to be modified for the race cams. I'm not sure if this mod needs to be done to a hotcam stage 1.

Did you torque the head and clean the sealing surfaces? a leaking head gasket sounds like something trying to pound the head off the engine....

sounds like preignition ping to me. If you're running 87 octane bump up to the next level and see what happens. That is if it's a ping sound you're hearing.

yeh i put all new head gaskets in and cleaned it off real good.... although today was messing with the valve clearence and it seemed to make alot of the noise go away.... but it still sounds a little different somebody told me that with i new high lift cam that it can some times take a few rides to make the valves ajust to the new cam but i dont no....

Did you install new valve springs with the cam? the stock springs are really bad and will allow the valves to float with a big cam...
