Raptor launches?
#1
Hey everyone... I have a 2003 stock Raptor... and my friend has a stock z400. Whenever we drag race (200 ft roughly on a dirt road) I always get beat by at least 2 lengths. I know its the rider (me). How would you recommend that I launch like what geat? I also only have about 1/4 of my rear tire tread left.... but that wouldn't matter that much I don't think at least.

I have tried launching in 2nd... and it really bogs down for the beginning of the rpm range... but when I try to launch in first so that I can maybe take him off the line really good... the front end really comes up hard. When I try launching in 2nd... should I just gun it then let out the clutch sorta slow so that it doesnt bog... or will that not work?

that would probably work i wouldnt know i diddnt have my bike stock long enough to know how the power was.. iwoth my setup i can launch in 2nd without reving up the rpms too much i can do it just like first and it is great.

start in 2nd. Rev it up and then let the clutch out slow so it doesn't bog. Once the tires get spinning you can let the clutch out all the way and it won't bog. This will take some practice, but it works really well.

I'm not sure, but I have ridden a Raptor before and I have launched a raptor before just messing around.
I put it in second, rev it up high, and dumped the clutch and leaned forward. the front end came up but i was able to put it back down and control it. It sounds awesome...when you rev it up very high and dump the clutch in 2nd or 3rd. It's like BAAAAAA.....(then right after you let the clutch out)dum...(then shifting)BAAAA BAAAAA BAAAAAA BAAAAA....

I do pretty well launching in first...I just lean way forward and let that sucker rip...the front end does pop up but I manage to push it back down...I think I'm gonna try 2nd gear starts. Would second gear starts be better if I dropped 1 tooth up front?

Try this, This is what I do with my pred.
Put it in 2nd, then revit up normally like you were gonna launch in 1st.
Start letting out the clutch normally but right as you feel the bike move forward very slightly, pin the throttle, and let out the clutch a little faster, but dont dump it.
It should have no problem, you shouldnt be even able to tell you started in 2nd because it will take off like its in first. And hold on, cause it will jerk you forward.
I like this was better becuase you get your good start and you also wont burn up your clutch as fast if you drag alot.......
You have to time it just right so right when he says "GO" thats when you pin the throttle and take off quick. So in other words, you should have the clutch at a point right before it will move so everything can happen real quick. If this method isnt done quickly, it doesnt work for sh*t
