Yo. Ive recently started racing my recon on MX tracks and found out I love it! and apparently my dad does too because hes actually talking about getting me a new quad just for racing. I know this topic has been read over too many times but I wasnt paying attension when I needed to so here it goes again. So I was wondering, would a 250R or a 400EX be better for me? Ive watched both of these machines racing and have to say the 400 looks a little easier to ride and seems to make it through the turns better. but when the Rs come out of the turns they beat the 400s in the straits and over some jumps. Which would be better for me?

that is something that YOU are going to have to
decide...i personally like the 250r, and the 2-stroke "snap" that it has--the 400ex is great too, though-- just how good are you? what are YOUR needs?

The 250R is no longer being manufactured, parts aren’t going to get easier to find or cheaper anytime soon. The 400ex is still in print and has lots of after market parts. I agree the two stroke pulls harder.

If cost is a consideration, the operating cost will be lower for the 400ex.

I will admit I am 4 stroke biased myself. I have always loved the torque of a good 4 stroke. This makes a 400ex easier to ride for myself and I would be a lot slower on a 250R at first. I have seen Doug Gust hop off his 250R and hop on his TC 400ex last year at Red Bud and fly on both(although he was probably a little faster on his 250) It depends on your riding style. I would go with the 400ex because of all the parts available and the fact that the starting point will be a newer machine and not an 11-14 yr. old quad.
