700 sportman front axle yoke
#2
Its easy to do. I can swap out axles in my 700 in under 20 min and a couple of beers.
1) Pull your tire
2) Pull the black plastic cap off that gives you accses (SP) to the crown nut were it goes through the hub. Pull the crown nut.
3) Disconect your lower ball joint, drop your lower A-arm.
4) Rap on the end of your axle a few times with a 2x4 to brake it free as your pulling your front strut out and to the rear. You may have to loosen your brake lines, but your should be able to get the axle out of your hubs without taking your struts off. ( I can, but I also have a 3" lift in the front..YMMV)
5) Give the axle a "tug" it will pop out of the front diff. This "tug" may be a 10# sludge hammer with a metal cable wrapped around the head, and the other end of the cable wrapped between the u-joint and the front diff. Thats how I ended up getting my axles out the 1st time. When you put the gorillas in use anti-seeze compound on the splines. That way they come out real easy for when you trash a boot.

The splines that go into your diff are male. Yes there is a snap ring that goes on the end of your axle (diff side). That is what the "tug" dislodges when you remove the axle from the front diff. Where the Sludge hammer "tug" comes in is where the male splines are sort of rusted into the the female part of the front diff.
