Default Sportsman 700 water pump cover

I have an '02 model and have learned of bad water pump covers causing leaks. Mine has only about 60 hours on it and has an anti-freeze leak. I asked my local dealer about it and he's told me the recall is over. Is this true or should I get a second opinion from another dealer? Is this a service bulletin or a recall? Any reference numbers?

Thanks,
SnowDrift

If you have a good dealer, they will take care of it for you. I don't know if there was ever an 'official' recall on the cover, but most good dealers will fix it or give you the parts for free. It is true that the water pump cover had a fix (metal cover that bolted over top of it), but they can also leak from the weep hole. When the mechanical (ceramic) seal goes bad it will leak from there. I think that seal was a weak point also - especially since they redesigned it. On my '02 700 I did the water pump cover and mechanical seal and it never leaked again. Clean up the cover as best you can and determine for sure where the leak is.
