Default GRIZZLY OR KODIAK? 2005?

I'm about to buy the kodiak 450 auto 4x4 and i was wondering how much i'm loosing by not going with the 660. I will be using it for hunting and riding on old logging roads and will keep it in good condition. If anyone likes a different atv better please let me know. Is there much differane between the 660 & 450 for what i will be using it for? Will the 660 fit in the back of a f-150 short bed. I see a few people are having a problem with the shifter on the auto. Is it a problem on the 2004 kodiak? Should i wait for the 2005? THANKS for your help

Thats a tough choice. If all you re gonna use it for is hunting and logging roads, get the Kodiak. If you re gonna add big tires and do some mudding, I d say the Grizzly. I was in the same position and I chose the Grizzly. But the Kodiak is really just a baby Grizzly. And if you want to save some money and the IRS isnt important to you, try and find a 04 Kodiak 450.

i think the kodiak's are junk compared to the grizzly 660, they get wet belt all the time. and the 400 has no power at all, i dont see were 50 cc is going to make that big of difference in power between the 400 and 450.

Junk? Have you owned one? They are far from junk AND they have alot of features the Grizzly does. As far as the belts getting wet, yes and no. The kodiak had problems with the front air tube coming loose. Once the owner knows this and knows to check it or fix it with a different connector, that problem is solved. Not sure on the 05s but on the 04s it was a few more things than 50 cc that was different. The 450 had low range, diff lock and 50 more cc. You re right, not alot of power difference but some. Some people dont need or want something as big as the Grizz. The kodiak handles better in the woods on tight trails. There are advantages and disadvantages to both. As far as no power, are you crazy? I can run side by side with a stock Polaris 700 up to about 20 mph. I dont care about top end speed. They are rated to pull roughly 1100 lbs.

I recently rode with a guy on a Grizz with my Kodiak and I regularly ride with a Polaris 700 . I went almost everywhere he did and everywhere the Polairs goes. The Grizz did go thru some deeper holes but he had bigger tires too.

BTW I also own a 05 Grizzly, so I m not biased.

But you calling them junk is far from true. Not being a d*ck but you sound like the type of person that just bc you have the big boy, everything is worthless.

The 450 kodiak is really only a 421 CC motor. The 400 kodiak is a 401 CC motor so there is only really a 20 CC difference between them. The 450 does have the diff lock which could come in handy. I would choose which ever one seems like a better deal $$ wise. I am trying to decide on this question myself. so let me no what you choose.

hi its me again Jesse and oh i know that the 04 Kodiak's dont have independent rearususpension and as far as the whole 20cc thing it is a big difference cause i owned them both and still have the 03 Kodiak with a 450 or 421cc or whatever and it makes quite a big dif. even though you wouldn't think so. and the DIF LOCK is a HUGE HUGE help especially when you go REAL four wheeling like we do in NORTHERN IDAHO... well see yeah later

I've been looking at the 05 kodiaks also. It sure does seem funny that the 400=401ccs, and the 450=421ccs. Why didn't they build a 500, and whats wrong with adding fuel injection. The irs is a welcome addition. I've been going back and forth between the kodiak, and the suzukl king quad. I don't really feel that i need 700 ccs though. I'm riding an eiger know and am happy with it. I just want to own 2 bikes, and like the added features on the kodiak 450. I guess i'll have to go down and take a look, and see what kind of a deal i can make.
