Default Crank & bearings & case installation

I just picked up my new counter balancer bearnig NTN 1 6006C3 ~ $23 total. So now that I have everything this crank is about to be installed. Do I follow procedures in Polaris manual to install bearings onto crank then install crank & bearing assembly into case, or follow advise from local ATV shop owner & install bearings into case, then install crank into the cases w/ the bearings already in there? Or am I wasting my time asking this while I could be putting it together??? 94 sportsman 400

You can do it either way,i prefer to install the bearings in the case first. You can either heat the cases and the bearings will slide in .Or you can freeze the bearings overnight and they will fall right in as well.Just make sure the bearings will slide onto the crank pretty easy.

I've found it easier to install the bearings on the crank, then heat the case in the oven (boy does the wife hate it when I do that! ) and slide the case onto the crank/bearing assembly - you've got to watch it, a 400* case can be pretty hot.

I installed the bearings on the crank first. I also used a heat gun I got at Habor frieght for around $30 and it worked like a dream. I decided to do that because aluminum case will expand faster than steel.

Ok, haven't even started assembling & already have a problem. My damn counter balance bearing I just bought is too damn thick. Inner & outer dimensions are right on but its too thick. Stock is measuring @ 9mm, new is 13mm. Anyone try milling a bearing?? 2mm off each side. Thats exactly how it looks, new bearing has rounded edges, old one has right angled edges. I guess I going to see if someone @ work can do it for me tomorrow.

Default PROBLEM!! Crank & bearings & case installation

Well I just got back from the machine shop here @ work & he says he can't do it cause it will magnetize the bearing. Says I could take it to a NICE machine shop & on the right machine it could be done but would cost ALOT. Does anyone have any suggestions or easy access to the correct bearing. I called the two bearing shops in Orlando & I got the only one left. The lady said they had one in Miami but it's probably the same wrong one, I'm about to call & check though.
