I found out today that the kodiak 400 is coming out this fall with IRS and a diff lock! The Kodiak 450 will also have IRS!

Bombardier Outlander watch out! Theres new bears in the woods. And they will be eager to stake out their territory.

I found out from a really good source. I know someone from a dealersip testing them as we speak.



(and yes I feel bombardier makes a really good quad for you future posters. I just don't like their looks.)

 

i really didn't want IRS. yes it's good that yamaha is making changes but what about those who want a nice solid axle. i don't know, maybe that is the next trend, IRS on everything.

 

down, What type of riding do you do that would make you want to stay with a straight rear axel over IRS?

 

Oh sure, bought a 04 and now they put IRS on the 450, now I have to con my wife into letting me upgrade. Thanks Kodiakowner for making my day[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img].

By the way did you install the reverse limiter yet? I got realy stuck a couple of weekends ago and had to break out the winch cable but if I had installed the limiter I might of been able to spin the tires and back out rather then dragging myself thru that goop.

Do you know if the 400's have disc's all the way around?

And I was going to upgrade to the 450 this past year. Boy am I glad I didn't do it now or I would be in the same position as AlaskaBoy. Now you guys tell me what would be better the new 450 or 400? Both with the dif and both with IRS.

As far as i know on the details i got, the 400 got a differ too. I am wondering about trading up myself. Kinda want to but also i kind of dont.

Alaska boy, I havent installed it yet. I am working at a yammy/suzuki/cat dealership now. might have to stay after work with the mechanic and see if we get it put on my quad. They have done it before but without warranty/guarantee coverage on it. hope your quad is ok. I'll Pm you when I get the Kody all dressed up. Its bad because i want to spend my paycheck where i work now.

I can see why people would still want a solid axle. the rear doesnt squat as much when pulling big critters out of the bush or any other heavy load with a trailer.

Cant wait to drive one now. Just hope its not as high as the grizz 660.

 

I dont know if the 400 has disc brakes. It would be the only natural next step.

This is all on the yamaha web site , it is not a secret but I am glad to see yamaha put IRS on the kodiak's we have a 450 and it is a nice , reliable atv, good power , little rough of a ride , but IRS would really help that , but still great atv's.
