How to get parts shipped to Canada without paying alot of Duty/Brokerage Fees?

Anybody know how to get stuff shipped across the border and not have to pay lots of duty and brokerage fees? What happens if you go across and bring it back yourself?

Ask whoever is shipping it to mark it as a gift on the customs form. Done this with eBay stuff many times.
