little dial on left side of lt500r block
#1
What does the little dial do that is on the left side of the quadzilla motor right up by the exhaust? it seems to have to positions, 0 and 250, any idea waht this is. it seems like it is a compression release because it seems to kick over easier on 0 but it'll start quicker and have more power on the 25o setting. I just want to know what setting it should be run on.
thanks

Thanks, sorry to sound stupid but i really dont know much about these quads, i usually only work on snowmobiles, trucks, and tractors and i dont have the manual for this thing. can anyone tell me where to set the dial on the power valve? also the pipe is leaking right where it meets the block becasue the kid that was workin on it before me broke all three mounting bolts off in the block. we managed to helicoil two of em but couldnt do the third, will it hurt to run the quad witht at pipe elakin up there? i got it jetted a little rich casue i thought that it might be to lean with the lack of back pressure, the plug looks good though, not lean at all, amybe just a tad to rich. any help is appreciated.

not sure about the 500 but on the 250 the factory setting is 360* counter clockwise turn from no tension on the spring.if the plug looks good and it runs fine (dosnt cut out) the i think you will be ok.you may be losing power though.try putting some anti-heat RTV silicone on it.it should seal it up.

It is in fact your powervalve. It is controlled by a sproing and needs to be set by your RPM's. If memory serves me correctly , the valve is supposed to move up (when looking through the site glass on the other side) at 4,000 rpm. It tricks you motor into thinking it has two pipes on it and helps with th epower band. I do not belive it should help or hurt starting, but hell it is a Suzuki so anything is poss.

I would highly recomend getting a shop manual for this machine if you plan on tinkering much... it can save you some serious headaches down the road.
Not really a power valve in a traditional sense... this valve opens a chamber which effectively changes the header pipe volume to improve low end and top end respectively.

Hey, Duneaddict, I was told by a friend that some pretty reputable quadzilla mechanics here in Phoenix actually weld the (powervalve) closed for better performance? any input on this?? I also had my motor rebuilt and the mechanic didn't put the powervalve back together, long story, so, I put the thing back together best I knew how and I am sure it isn't correctly positioned and the bike seems to actually run better now than it did stock??
Help would be greatly appreciated~

Weld the powervalve shut? Why would anyone do that? That's what makes these 500s... gobs of low end and top end. Powervalves/chamber valve//valve thingy/pipe enlongeratormabobbers are the best.

ZillaRacer, I have seen it done in pure drag race motor builds. I personally don't recomend it, as it's nice for a small amount of tuneablilty.
There's several opinions out there by the various builders, and if they are worth their salt, do a full simulation on port specs along with pipe specs including the additional header volume that is variable per this valve.
When you installed yours, perhaps it wasn't adjusted properly before... ?
