I have a '99 honda recon with a K&N filter, and I wanted to know if anyone has ever tried to race one of these in a beginer utility class, and if so how did it do and what were the requirements?

You can race it, but you will have to put a kill-switch on it. I would get a new pipe and rejet it.

As long as your quad isnt falling apart it's race-able.......Dont worry about the quad are you ready? =-) Practice never hurt.......

The reason I was asking was so if it's possible I could go on practice day and get ready to start next season.

how are you going to compete with a Recon?

I'm not bashing the recon..it's an awesome ATV, i had it's little brother the TRX250.

But I just don't see how you can compete against the other 2x4 Utility quads.

If you want to race..Sell it and get a 250x! or a blaster.

Blaster class is tons of fun to race!

Actually, I think that the recon can take it. It has better suspension and weighs less than any other mid sized atv (55 pounds less then the next lightest 250) can beat a 300 2x4 in a dragm has a fairly tight turning radius, and I have heard that it can beat a 450s in a drag race.

Come now he's racing against UTILITY quads. In my opinion about anyone has a good shot at winning! As long as your good with your bike go for it!

what the hell are you talking about 94dg? I race my recon in the utility class and can beat almost anybody. the recon is one of the sportiest utility quads ever made. dont get me wrong its not a speed demon but it will do the job until you can get a hi performance quad.
