??air adjustment on 01 Trail Boss
#1
My wife hadn't ridden her Trail Boss in awhile so I decided to take it for a quick spin last week. Well, after charging the battery up it wouldn't start. Guess I've neglected the thing to much lately and now I'm going to pay for it. After checking spark, good, and fuel flow, good, I decided to tear into the carb. Anyhow I found the idle jet had clogged, probably due to sitting around with an abundance of fuel in it for to long. Got it back together and it starts and runs again but the part I neglected to mention was where I fiddled with the air flow screw. I think it's an air screw on this bike instead of a fuel mixture screw anyhow. But when I was messing with it, I neglected to pay attention to how many turns I was going in and out. Since the manuals for these things are next to worthless, there's no mention on proper factory adjustment for the carburetor. So I think I set it at about 1 3/4 turns out and like I said it does run and idle and everthing but I'd like to know what the correct setting is on that screw so I can put it back the way it was and have some peace of mind. So can anyone out there tell me how to set that up? I'd sure appreciate it. Thanks.

Can't remember for sure, but I think it was 1 1/2. Mine's different now because of the kit. Call a local dealer, someone in the service dept. should be able to help you. I do know this, if you don't have it right, it's a real pain to go back and adjust again.

I figured it would be a bear to adjust again after I put the carb in. These things sure were'nt built to be worked on and I cuss a storm every time I have to do something. That stupid screw is so buried in the carb I'd never have found it unless I'd removed the carb and held it in my hand. There's just to much plastic attatched in strange ways. I really miss my old Honda 350X ATC that had one spring loaded lever that would remove all the plastic in 1 second.
