Default Sportsman 400

Hi everyone, I was out at some little sand dunes yesterday and had my dads sportsman 400 out there. When I would try climbing a hill It would run out of power. I was wondering if anyone knows of some ways to get more power out of this engine without doing any major mods. It seems like it has power but wont rev high enough when it gets in a tight spot. Thanks

Has Polaris issued any sort of service bulletin on this? My uncle just bought one of these. He picks it up tomorrow. Hopefully I'll get a chance to test it out this weekend to see if there's a problem.

No service bulletins that I know of. I'm sure Polaris is aware of the problem, but are ignoring it. For some reason they switched from a 167.5 main in 2003 to a 172.5 main in 2004 (with no changes in engine or carburation), which is way too rich. A good dealer would replace it at no cost. My dealer sucks, so I went with the Dynojet kit.

BTW, I have 4 167.5 main jets that I'm not going to use. If anybody needs one send me an address and I'll mail one to ya.

I just purchased one this past week, and seem to have the same problem. I will try to see if my dealer knows anything about this(probably not)

I had the same problem on my 04 400, The dealer dropped it a notch and didnt charge me a dime, However since then I have gotten a dynojet Kit... I would almost feel safe saying that anyone who Buys a new 400 needs to drop it at least one notch, maybe 2.. I was riding below 700 foot elevation alot and it was STILL very rich, In the mountains forget it!.
Print out some of these threads and show your dealer, i was told there actually IS a tech bulletin regarding this now. Of course you could rejet it your self, Only takes about 20 minutes or less, and is Probably quicker , easier and less time consuming then loading it up, hauling it to the dealer then waiting a day or 2 to get it back.

Ktmguy- When you say dropped it a notch what are you talking about, the jet size or what?

I have a 2001 sp400. It will go about 55 on the flat. I have also had problems climbing in high range (which can be extremely dangerous). However, when I put it into low, it climbs like a goat.
