Sportsman 400
#1
Hi everyone, I was out at some little sand dunes yesterday and had my dads sportsman 400 out there. When I would try climbing a hill It would run out of power. I was wondering if anyone knows of some ways to get more power out of this engine without doing any major mods. It seems like it has power but wont rev high enough when it gets in a tight spot. Thanks

No service bulletins that I know of. I'm sure Polaris is aware of the problem, but are ignoring it. For some reason they switched from a 167.5 main in 2003 to a 172.5 main in 2004 (with no changes in engine or carburation), which is way too rich. A good dealer would replace it at no cost. My dealer sucks, so I went with the Dynojet kit.

I had the same problem on my 04 400, The dealer dropped it a notch and didnt charge me a dime, However since then I have gotten a dynojet Kit... I would almost feel safe saying that anyone who Buys a new 400 needs to drop it at least one notch, maybe 2.. I was riding below 700 foot elevation alot and it was STILL very rich, In the mountains forget it!.
Print out some of these threads and show your dealer, i was told there actually IS a tech bulletin regarding this now. Of course you could rejet it your self, Only takes about 20 minutes or less, and is Probably quicker , easier and less time consuming then loading it up, hauling it to the dealer then waiting a day or 2 to get it back.
