I was wondering what are some indications of when your pistons are getting fried?

loss of compression or power

 

Pinging noise coming from engine. (preignition)

 

it will make rattle sound coming from the bore of the cylinder,
it will smoke black also wich is not good.

 

The couple of spark plugs I saw that came out of burned engines were dark gray, not brown.

 

i would suggest that you pull the plug and put your finger over the hole. then turn the motor over. see how much compression you have. you can tell when there isn't much because it won't even move your finger. be sure not to stick your finger in the hole, because that won't be pretty!!

 

you can pickup a compression tester for around $20, they are a required tool for the DIY 2 stroke owner.

 

When it smokes, when there is a noise coming from the head, and there is a loss of power.
