Front Tires For Raptor
#1
Hi, All When putting my Raptor 660 on my trailer after a day of riding the front tire went flat. It seems there is a nice slice in the sidewall so the tire is ruined. Now are the stock Dunlops KT331 21x7x10 so bad that now may be the time to replace them with a set of aftermarkets? I was thinking of the Holeshot XCR the same size as the Dunlops. Sometimes I ride on trails where a flat would be very inconvienent. The ATV has only been riden a few times so the other front tire is still good. Being new to the ATV sport it also seems it would be in my best interest to be able to change the tires myself. Can anyone recommend a beadbreaker that works? I put the tire in a woodworkers vice and the bead still would not give. I've seen inexpensive ones from JC Whitney for $20.00 al the way up to some that cost in the $100.00 range. Thanks For your comments Bob

I bought one from harbor freight it was on sale for 35.00. Check there they are on sale all the time regular price is like 60.00 . It is a tire changer it will break the bead very easily and then you can change the tire on the other part . I dont no how easy it change the tire but i no it breaks beads well.

Hi All, Thanks for responding. I ened up ordering a set of ITP XCR's with the ITP rims already mounted. I checked around here and the ATV dealers had basically no stock or maybe just one of a particular brand. On top of that one guy wanted 40 bucks to change each tire. If anyone knows what kind of pressure I should put in, the Raptor manual says 4.5lbs maybe the xcr's are different. And GYTR I did see the ones at harbor freight the have 2 one made for small tires (for atv's?)at 40 bucks and another one (perhaps the one you were talking about) at 35 bucks. If anyone else has experiance with these let me know!

It depends if you are gonna race or not.I run 11 lbs front and 6lbs back on track.Did you get off set rims. The offset rims from itp I got made my raptor 2v inches wider on top of my 4 in. offset with a arms.Makes it handle like a dream and steer on a dime

I run Maxxis Razor 2 tires..they are 6 ply and great for mud, rocks, sand and pretty much anything but dune riding or flat track racing. I have rode on some very nasty stuff and i ride hard..no baying it in the sharp rocks! I am running 4lbs front and rear never have suffered a puncture..so far. I would definatly go with ITP offset rims, it is a cheap way to add 2" to your width. The baja series rims (they have reinforcing rings in them) are great and prevent air leaks by bending a rim. i have seen too many days ruined by a flat so always keep your old rims and tires inflated to use as spares..we travel 3 hours to ride sometimes...it would really suck to have a flat and sit out! What ever you do don't buy anything but .190 thickness wheels if you ride on rough terrain..the wieght saving is not worth the constant rim bending!

Hey guys! Not sure if I got offset rims all I know is that they are ITP Pro Series wheels a package Deal. I could have gotten Douglas .190's but thought the ITP's looked better. I ride in Nothern NJ and have hit the Public trails in NE PA. I was worried there about flats it was so rocky, I never got the Rap out of 2nd gear, kinda sucked. I got the puncture in the sidewall at a farm after letting my buddies son ride it. Can't blame him though I was fortunate to have it happen at the end of the day. Thats why I bouht the rims and tires so know I at least have a spare for the front. I do not race kinda just mess around I will start out with 5 or so PSI in the fronts and see how it goes.

i flattened both front tires in one afternoon here. the next weekend it had XCTs on douglas rims on it. no flats since. In fact my blaster has XCRs on the back and they work great! 4-6 lbs....i keep the stockers ready to go for sand an stuff, since they are mounted and inflated.
dont mess with changing them, just buy a package. those dunlops are most of the reason ppl say the raptor is tippy. they tend to fold under unexpectedly and they dont always slide when ya want, unless you have 10 lbs of air in the tires....i wouldnt use em for anything but sand.
have fun with yer holeshots! good tires!
