700 sp dies when awd is switched on

700 sp dies when awd is switched on
My buddy has a 04 700 sportsman that dies when the AWD switch is flipped on. It was working fine one day then the next it started messing up. I'm thinking there is a short some where caused by riding through some water. Any ideas?
