Exhaust problem

I have a 1985 atc 250r and teh silencer was shot so I got a fmf power core silenecer to put on it. When I got the silenecer it did not seem to fit right aI had to pull up hard on the pipe to get it to mount. The bend in the silencer pipe looked just like the stock but it went on TIGHT. Now when I start it some comes out of the exhaust flange where it mounts at the motor. It has a stock muffler and it was loose at the flange before I put the fmf on. Should I just get a new fmf pipe so they line up. Any ideas?

HI THIS IS SHADEY I HAD THE SIMILAR PROBLEM ON MY 82' 250R AND MY 85' 250R:
MY ANSWER: FMF SHOULD OF TOLD YOU THAT THE SILENCER DOES NOT FIT PROVISION TO BE ON A STOCK PIPE, MY SUGGESTION EITHER FIND A USED FMF PIPE OR BUY A NEW ONE
ALSO CONSIDER THIS: EXHAUST SEAL OR MADE THAT WHEN YOU PUT THEM ON THEY STAY ON IN ALMOST THE EXACT POSITION THEY WERE WHEN INSTALLLED SO TRY TO INSTALL AN AFTERMARKET EXHAUST FLANGE.

THE 85 AND 86 ATC 250R MOTOR IS TTHE SAME AS THE 86 TRX 250R MOTOR .
THE 87, 88, 89 MOTOR IS ALMOST THE SAME EXCEPT FOR THE 87, 88, 89 MOTOR HAS A LITTLE BIT BIGGER OF A BORE (.05) NOT EVEN ENOUGH TO KNOW. THERE IS A VERY HIGH DEMAND FOR THE 87, 88, 89 MOTOR BECAUSE IT IS MORE POPULAR.
ALSO THE 86,87 TRX IS DIFFERENT FROM THE 88,89 TRX BECAUSE THE SWINARM ON THE 86,87 IS IN A POOR MOUNTING POSITION THERE FOR THEY ARE NOT AS DESIRREABLE OR VALUED AS MUCH AS THE 88,89 BUT YOU WILL FIND THAT PEOPLE WILL TAKE THE 86,87 AND TRANSFER IT TO AN 88,89 TRX

I'm still trying to fix my exhaust leak from buying the fmf silencer without having to buy a new pipe. Will the new flange work or can I take of the original pipe and just get new o rings on the flange I have now.

YES YOU COULD GET NEW O-RINGS (RUBBER OR COPPER)(I SUGGEST COPPER, IT WILL FORM TO THE SHAPE AND EXACT SIZE OF THE HEAD PIPE)
BUT FLANGES GET DEFORMED AFTER ALMOST 20 YRS(UP TO YOUR BUDGET, BOTH WORK)
