Sportsman Fuel
#1
Had a terrible time getting my '99 Sportsman 335 started after getting out of Winter storage. Everything checked good. Finally drained tank and filled with fresh gas - still wouldn't start. Drained carb, found terrible substance in there that once was gas (yellow/brown).
Starts ok now.
I put StaBil in the tank when it went into storage and run the engine for 10-15 minutes. Why didn't the StaBil keep the gas fresh enough to start in the Spring?
What should I do this Winter to prepare for storage?
All suggestions appreciated

Stabil will not keep fuel from evaporating. I will stabilize it in a sealed container. It could have been made worse by posible moisture and or ethanol/MTBE fuel. I would suggest you drain the carb or at least run the fuel out of it next winter.

Try changing your fuel filter as well. I use a clear one that I got for a couple of bucks at the auto parts store. It also has a replaceable element. I like the clear ones because I can see if I have any debris in the lines. If your carb had that gunk in it, then your filter couldnt be much better
