Default Sportsman 700EFI or another 700 class atv?

I am in the market for a 700 atv and considering a 660 Grizzly very seriously. I have a Suzuki Eiger right now with 26in. ITP 589's on it and the thing is unstoppable. I don't know why i need a 700 but i do. I am considering all the makes (the kawi/suzuki 700, grizzly 660, polaris 700efi). I would like to know if anybody else has had to make this decision before and what they chose and if they are satisfied? I have heard that polaris belts suck, but they are fast and powerful. I have heard great and negative about both grizzly and praire/twin peaks. I live in Florida, so rock climbing won't be an issue, but i will mainly use it for mud and hunting. I like the idea of having IRS, but i do have an Eiger and not having IRS has not ever been a problem. In fact, is IRS even that great? Any help please? Thanks.

Polaris' belts do not "suck". They have a lifetime warranty on the belt, and they can go very deep in the water if everything is sealed right. I have had my EFI up to the seat in water and did not have any problems with the belt. The 700 EFI is pretty fast (really fast for 720lb). It rides very smooth, and has the best 4x4 system out there IMO. It does everything well, pulling, mudding, second fastest in its class, and to top it all off it rides awsome. Don't take my word for it, test drive one!

Almost forgot, you get EFI too. You'll find that to be a gift from God from time to time. I love it when my buddys are working there tails off to get there ATV to start, and I can just turn the key hit the gas and go!

I just bought a 700efi about 4 weeks ago. I was wanting a prarie but since it was for my wife I decided to get the brainless on demand 4wd system.

I am quite glad I got a irs quad. I never realized how much Log climbing and stuff I would be doing. I never really go over 30 mph so SRA would not be helpful for me. There is serious mud here in east Texas and the sportsman seems to do quite well with it thus far. Ive only burned two tanks of gas.

Currently the sportsman is in the shop for non functioning left headlight and broken battery caps. Dealer wants to make sure caps weren't blown off by battery overcharging.

I currently got my eye on 05 Kaw for myself but will consider 05 Polaris.

My 2 cents

Almost 1500 miles on my '02 (built 9/21/2001) 700 Twin and NEVER have had to replace the belt. I had the cover off last year after doing some serious mudding and found the interior of the drive mechanism to be PRISTINE...no dirt, no water, nothing! The belt was not in the least worn. I've heard a lot about Polaris ATV's....good and bad....but one thing I have never heard "sucked" was there belts! :-)

Oh, one more thing- take your pick really and get the SP700 EFI, the Grizz, the Kawi 750 Brute Force or the Suzuki 700 King Quad.... I think you won't go wrong with anyone of them really. All in all I think anyone of those quads will make an awesome ride.

I agree with Jack. Any of the big bores are awesome. I'd wait ten more days to see if Polaris unveils the SP800. That would be awesome!!!

Never had a belt problem with my 02, it still has the original with about 900 miles on it. It is a great machine, the only thing i would consider getteing diff. is the SP700 EFI.

I had a 2001 Raptor 660R, basically the same motor as the Grizz I think. Nice power, and decent cold starting, but I admit, my new 2004.5 700EFI starts as easy as my wife's Durango...

With that said, my Raptor was a 399 lb sport machine that I drove as hard as I could, shifts at or just below the rev limiter, and it was pretty fuel efficient.

From what i can see on my new SP700 EFI it's a little on the thirsty side. To be fair, there is only 36 miles on it, and I"m breaking it in. Power is awesome, ride is great, and I can't tell it's belt driven. Rarely need to use the AWD switch, as it's so heavy 2wd is usually enough. I'd have to say ride 'em both, and go with your personal preference. But.....at 2.07 a gallon for fuel, you may want to take a few extended test rides to see how the economy is.

If you buy the SP700, Get the Headlight mod installed as soon as you get it home, and cover all of the fuel lines with split loom to save yourself any issues down the road. (I'm still trying to get this done, can't seem to go into the garage without riding it, instead of fixing it. The headlight mod is a life saver, having all three lights on at once!

Oh yeah, the other thing I didn't like about the 700EFI is black only. I had my heart set on a yellow one, but opted for the EFI over naturally asparated for the stated 25% better fuel ecomony. (Wife has 600 SP, IT'S THIRSTY!!!!)

If you are muddin, the sportsman is by far the best out there. I would rank the Artic Cat next. I ride with all types of machines a the worst for muddin is the Prairie.

However, the new 750 Kawi looks real good on paper. I don't know anybody who has one yet.

Wait a couple of weeks and see what Polaris brings out.
