My wife's new '04 Trailblazer has a problem...

Damnit. I've heard all the horror stories about Polaris, but gave them the benefit of the doubt. EVEN after watching my buddy have prob. after prob. with his '01 Trailboss. BUT, I went ahead and got my wife an '04 TB. It was perfect for her and she really likes it. We've had it for about 3 months now and it prob. has 20 hours on it total.
Enough of the childish rant, and onto the important matters.... It's under warranty still, but I really didn't want to trailer it up and haul it 45 min to the dealer, especially if it's an easy fix. Here's what up: The starter doesn't seem to disengage. It has the new turn-key ignition and it's almost like the key never returns to the "on" position, which it does. It just that the starter doesn't ever disengage. Is this an easy fix or should I pack it up and haul it in? Anyone have any ideas or come across this before?

No, I sure don't. Plus I really liked they guys and the mechanic at the dealer we bought it from. Seemed to shoot me straight. I just didn't want to go through the hassle of taking it back...

Sounds like a bad ignition switch by what you descirbe. Part is 49.99, just put one on the Magnum (don't how my bro-in-law hit a tree there). Took all of about three minutes to install.

MY BUDDIES 02 500 x SCRAMBLER HAD THE SAME PROBLEM.
It was acctually the key
The rubber on top of the key (SEAL) would rub the plastic around the dash panel
You just need to turn it back a little after it starts. Or triming some of the rubber away
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies, guys!
Bubba, I had that thought, too. I can turn the key to the off position and quickly turn it back on, the quad won't completely die and the engagement is still there. It's always done this, but it would only stay engaged for a few seconds after the machine has started. I assumed this was normal due to the new turn-key method of starting. Now it just won't disengage at all. HOWEVER, lastnight I found that if I rev the motor up several times it'll dis-engage.
