Default dvx vs 400ex

dude i think they dvx 400s are not faster than the air cooled 400ex. they make it sound like if u get a 400ex u wont keep up with the ltzs and the dvxs. my friends stock 400ex takes it every time by like 1 to 2 quads length. i think no one gives the 400ex enough credit they are still really torquey beasts. i cant wait till i get mine

Dude, the 400ex is a very nice bike, but the kawisukicats are faster stock. Maybe your friend is a better rider.

...2mph top speed, 2 horses....neither of which you can feel, and both of which can be made up for EASILY by rider skill

With my FMF exhaust setup(not the best), a K&N filter and modified airbox I beat a stock Z400 by quite a bit. I've never raced one when my bike was stock but I'm sure given the same rider skill the DVX/LTZ would take it by a slight margin but not much. I would imagine the "kawisukicats"(LOL) are more responsive to mods due to the liquid cooling though.

Actually it seems to be the dohc that really sets the two engines apart. The heat is a minimal factor on the ex because it is so good at cooling itself.

There's not much if any difference in the speed that these two make. As for power, the EX has more low end torque and the Z revs more. In a drag race it WILL be the better rider. I use to believe all that "the Z will blow away an EX" crap until I got my first chance to race all 3 of them one afternoon........ EX = Z, KFX, and DVX. I do have an 04 EX and they seem to be a little faster than earlier models but I can't say for sure.

People shun the air-cooled feature of the 400EX. Well how many people do you see on here with fully-modded 440 or more EXs complaining about overheating problems?

Not to be rude or anything but have you ever acutally ridden a 440EX at the dunes in warm/hot weather?? I owned a 440EX for a while and I can tell ya once that thing got hot I could watch the HP sink into the dunes. Now I won't disagree that my Z gets hot even with liquid coolin...because it sure as heck does!! The difference is the power BARELY changes,if at all, and I don't have to worry as much about over-heating.

I sold that EX to my next door neighbor so I still see it quite often, and I can say it has been pretty reliable (couple of blown head gaskets but thats about it), and still is a worthy quad.

I have both, so I don't have any reason to BS anybody. My EX has an aftermarket header and muffler, vented airbox, and K&N. It is geared down a little for trail riding, so keep in mind that it does give up some top end.

Anyway, down a desert wash 5th gear pinned, a STOCK Z will slowly pull away from the EX, and eventually leave it in the dust. I prefer the EX for tighter, slower trails, because it will lug down and has lots of low end. I pick the more revy and pipey Z for faster trails and open country.
