another question about counter balance +info on my 400
#1
i bought a used 97 scrambler in january and i have been rebuilding it one of the first things i did was rebuild the counter balance i got new seals and new bearings and put it all back together to spec but after every ride i have changed the oil in my counter balanceand now there is no coolant in it at all "thank God" but there is alot of little metal shaveings just like dust is this normal????
here is a list of everything i have done to the quad since i bought it
new counter balance seals and bearings
new bearings on the crank
wisco piston 20 over "it did not need a bore just rehoned there was a junk piston that had just been put in"
new wrist pin and bearings
2002 scrambler plastic and seat
itp rims
titan 489 tires
fmf gnarly pipe "one of the best pipes for the scrambler gobs more power and not very loud"
new chain
new front and rear sprockets
new battery
all i got left to do to the bike is shock covers brake pads hand guards and a seat cover i would also like to trim the plastic but i have to figure out the best way to do that
so far i have about 2400 in it not bad if you ask me, dont you dare ask my wife..lol

I would say anytime you have metal in the oil it is not normal. First thing you should do is determine if it is ferrous or not. Use a magnet and let the old oil run over it. If you have metal on the magnet then it is the bearings or gears and if not it is part of the aluminum case. Either way I would look in to it as soon as possible. Another thing to look at is the oil injector pump, if you are still using it, make sure the shaft distance is correct. Good luck with it.

what do you mean shaft distance on the oil pump? i really think it is just old shaveings because i did not clean it out real well when i had it apart there is no strange clunking or anything and it seams to run strong...i think i will check the oil again after the next ride and if its still dirty ill tare it down any ideas on a way to clean the inside really good with the bike still together??
fmf is a great pipe everyone has there favorits and i have tried an hpd pipe and the fmf the fmf does not give me as much speed but great low end "thats what this pipe is designed to do" but its bairly louder than stock i hate a really loud pipe and the hpd pipes that i have had one for the trailblazer and one for the sport have both been vary vary loud even with good silencers on them the walls of the pipe are just so thin....
