Sportsman Oil Change...Oil pump prime,,,BEWARE!!
We thought we had correctly primed the oil pump by pinching off the vent hose at the slit 3" above the oil tank. But something went wrong and we blew the motor. WTF went wrong?

Oil pump prime can be lost by leaving drain plugs out overnight, or draining the oil in the oil pump cavity, or cleaning the screen to the oil tank. Pinching off the vent hose at the slit while cranking the engine over is supposed to restore prime.
What Happened? How can oil pump prime be verified?
