Rejetting a 2004 Rancher ES 350
#1
Hello, I'm brand new to ATV'ing and I've recently purchased 2 Rancher ES 4X4 350's. One is a 2004 and the other 2005. No difference that I can tell. Anyway, I purchased the machines in Las Vegas and they run great around here. But, over Memorial Day weekend we went up to Utah to the Paiute ATV Trail and it was incredible! The ATV's ran fine until we reached higher altitudes and then they started cutting out. I was told that they should be rejetted for that altitude. Is this something that I can do myself?
I don't want to sound like a complete idiot, but I have no clue about this stuff.....I'm a computer nut, not much at mechanics. Anyway, I see an adjustable **** on the side of the carburator, is this how I rejet it? What do I do here? I've searched these forums and nothing seems to pertain to the Rancher ES 350's. We're going back up there on Labor Day weekend and I'd like to have them ready to roll by then. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks alot!

Get a service manual or if you are a HRCA member you can access the factory service manual on line. It should have the recomended jet size, and step by step procedure. you can do it yourself.

The adjustable **** on the side of the carburator is to adjust your idle speed. It has nothing to do with rejetting. I kno nothing of rejetting but I've seen it done and it looks easy so long as you have the proper documentation and installation instructions. Here's a to LINK to Dynojet, ther're just one compnay I thought of that sells jet kits. I understand the kits come with all the parts and instructions you need to rejet your ATV. I believe you need kit Q108 for your ATV. Good Luck

What happens at altitude, is a decrease in available oxygen. So the fix, ...is to decrease the fuel( smaller jets), or increase the air( remove the air box lid).Either method is acceptable, and if youre not very mechanical, the increasing of air is probably the easiest way.
With the jetting, usually its just the mains that get changed out, and after riding at altitude, the leaner jets need to come out, before riding at lower alts. or you run the risk of running too lean.
If youre just going to be at altitude, now and then... alot of guys put the 1" vents in the air box cover, and as they go up in altitude, they open the vents as needed. A crude, but just as effective, method, would be to just cover the 1" holes with duct tape, and remove the tape as you go up, and replace it as you come down.
