The trail boss 325 is a good machine and a decent hill climber. In its stock form, it will not overpower you. Read down a few threads and you'll find one from 325 who did a stage one kit and said it really woke it up. I have rode my wifes trail boss several times and I really enjoy riding it. Its also a decent mudder for being a two wheel drive. The only drawback to this machine is the lack of low range. Don't plan on doing a lot of towing unless you plan on changing the belt frequently. All in all, for $3,300, its a good machine.

Will you be happy with it? That depends on a lot. If price is no object get a Magnum 500 or SP500. Price is an issue for 99% of us so lets look at other things to consider. Will you tow a lot?, Do you need low gear for slow climbing over A LOT of downed trees or rocks? Do you need a top speed of over 45 MPH?, Will you sport ride with a lot of high performance machines? Yes to any of these questions look for a differant machine.
This machine will climb hills, go through deep sand and mud. If it gets to crazy find a differant path. Yes, if you ride with 500 4x4's there will be times when you will not be able to go or do what they do. Most of the time you can find an alternate route and have no problems.
I have had my 325 for a few months now and love it. Sometimes a friend may laugh that my machine can not do what there 500 4x4 does. I just smile to myself and think at least I did not take a home equity loan to pay for it! If you want a machine that can do 90% of what a 400 or 500 class machine can do at nearly half the price go for it.

my wife and i are new to quadding. we purchased two TB 325's june of 99. i wanted a 4stroke machine with at min. an auto clutch and one rack. i narrowed it down to the Kawasaki Lakota and Trail Boss 325. For approx. a grand less the TB won the nod. They are excellent machines for novices. there is no learning curve to speak of, they have enough power to bite you if you do something stupid, but not scare you from riding them agressively. We have had zero mechanical problems to date and maintenance is easy. Great on narrow trails, a blast on two tracks, decent on sand climbs, excellent hill climber and good in mud. My only beef is you can't get the front end light for whoops or wheelies. The Stage 1 Kit from Ritter sounds like the ticket for fixing the low end punch this machine needs. Are we happy? Yes.. Do I want a bigger one? Like the new 500 2x4 scrambler? One more season......

The only way to make a 325 Trail boss go 55 is to add a 414 and stage 1 kit from Rick Ritter(total about $750). I do not think 60MPH is possible without some major major money being spent(if at all). 45 is an honest top end on the stock Trail Boss. I know, I own one.

Yeah, I agree about the speed issue. Top speed I've marked is 43mph. Unless you're on an open dirt road or you have two-track straight away you'll never reach that speed anyway. Most of the trails I ride on are 50" in width plagued by stumps and rocks, 10 to 15mph is about what you have to do in order to stay riding.
