Default close ratio gears

Would the close ratio gearing that the new TLD Predator has be any good for the trails or is that more for a drag set-up. Seems to me that alot of shifting in the tight woods might not be a good idea.... but I've never riddin one with that type of gearing so whats the info on them?

yup better for trails in my opinion some people might say better for race but thats more of a chance to miss the gear because you gotta shift that quick.

more of a challenge, since you only need 1st 3 gears on a raptor in trails (my 3rd gear can hit 60 mph, plenty fast for trails)

we'll have to wait and see what they call close ratio gears may not be noticeable to the rider or it may be a night and day difference between the standard gearbox who knows.

yes and no, it comes down to your riding style.

Like my Banshee and Mustang have close ratio trannies, its shift shift shift then around 4th on my mustang the gearing gets taller on the banshee its starts to run longer in 5th.

The idea behind close ratio gearing it to get you up to the top speed ASAP the faster you shift the faster you go.

A simple sprocket change should make for less shifting.

I can't wait to hop on a new pred to see the difference between the standard tranny and the new one.

close ratio gears mean, lower gearing ratio for harder acceleration
and more "usabble" top end power,so it mean at 5th gear i should start to fly.

1st though 4th gears will have less rpm change/closer ratio's, there will be a larger rpm change between 4th and 5th gears than there is on the 03/04 models IMO.

hhhmmmm...... interesting points. My only concern is that when I went to a pipe and airbox mod on the 03 predator I was hitting the rev limiter really fast... I mean really fast!!! So with a close ratio gearing and a pipe and airbox mod, Im wondering if would be just to rediculous to bear on the trails or evan a drag strip.

It is never that way on a drag strip, that is what you want is to get fast, in a short amout of time. On tight trails it might be a hassle, for some. On open trials, it should be ok, because you can just get in a gear and go.
