close ratio gears

Would the close ratio gearing that the new TLD Predator has be any good for the trails or is that more for a drag set-up. Seems to me that alot of shifting in the tight woods might not be a good idea.... but I've never riddin one with that type of gearing so whats the info on them?

yes and no, it comes down to your riding style.
Like my Banshee and Mustang have close ratio trannies, its shift shift shift then around 4th on my mustang the gearing gets taller on the banshee its starts to run longer in 5th.
The idea behind close ratio gearing it to get you up to the top speed ASAP the faster you shift the faster you go.
A simple sprocket change should make for less shifting.
I can't wait to hop on a new pred to see the difference between the standard tranny and the new one.

1st though 4th gears will have less rpm change/closer ratio's, there will be a larger rpm change between 4th and 5th gears than there is on the 03/04 models IMO.

hhhmmmm...... interesting points. My only concern is that when I went to a pipe and airbox mod on the 03 predator I was hitting the rev limiter really fast... I mean really fast!!! So with a close ratio gearing and a pipe and airbox mod, Im wondering if would be just to rediculous to bear on the trails or evan a drag strip.

It is never that way on a drag strip, that is what you want is to get fast, in a short amout of time. On tight trails it might be a hassle, for some. On open trials, it should be ok, because you can just get in a gear and go.
