Default close ratio gears

There are several cdi's out to up the rev limit, Modquad said the 05's have a higher rev limit but he didn't know how much the change was yet.

On the gearing if you hit the limiter too quick change the sprockets or gear it up.

The current trans ratios are:

1st 2.60
2nd 1.70
3rd 1.30
4th 1.10
5th .9

From that you can see the larger gap between 1st ,2nd and 3rd. 3rd, 4th and 5th are closer together. The 05's most likely with have the first 4 gears closer together with a larger gap between 4th and 5th. I think this will be a good setup for drag racing and woods riding, the strip guys can can gear up and not use 5th depending on the strip length, and us woods riders would only need 5th gear on the wide open straights. With the close ratio's your keeping the engine in the meat of the powerband better so it should accelerate faster.

The closer ratios will definately be better...but they are only in the tld pred Why not both? When I woods raced my 03 pred last year, I had to really gear it down to get some meat in the powerband, then you are tapping the rev limiter. But yes, for 05 they raised the rev limit on the CDI, I would suspenct arond 9,800, definately not over 10. And with the same 5th gear ratio, but closer 1-4...it will accelerate even faster, you will be able to carry the revs further with a pipe, and you will not lose the top-end in the bike. You will most likely be able to keep stock 14-37 gearing. I had to go 13-38 for racing, so not only do you hit rev limiter quicker, I lost about 5mph in the open stratches when I topped 5th. I'm actually considering giving up my yfz and going back to a pred...?
