An aftermarket full exhaust will help a lot, the 250x/300ex has a small pipe, opening that up makes a big difference, I put a Supertrapp IDS2 on my son's 300ex, make sure you put heat resistant tape under the rear fender, a lot of aftermarket exhausts tend to burn or melt the spot by the seat. The air box is only fed by 2 small frame tubes, opening up the lid with some vent holes will make a big difference. Of course, then you will need to jet up a couple of sizes to make up for the flow. I also went up one size on the pilot jet, makes it start and idle a lot better, it is pretty lean from the factory. 20 inch tires on the back make it handle a lot better, but you will need to put a 14 tooth sprocket up front to keep the top end from dropping off. Costs for mods, Pipe: mine was 135 off ebay, check there, or brand new from Rocky Mt. ATV, 189, holes in air box, free, or put som vents or Outerwear screen to keep water and dirt out, 15 - 30 bucks, 20 inch Fast Trekkers, got mine from Nebraska Tire, 25 bucks apiece + shipping. 14 tooth sprocket, 15 or 20 bucks. Heat panel for protecting rear fender, 10 bucks (also off ebay, but you can buy it from catalogs or auto parts stores, too). Jets, 4 bucks a piece, pilot jet, about 12 bucks from dealer. All that, if you are a smart shopper, will run under 500 or just over.

Well Thank you very much for the info !!!
I see people put the 350x motor in these for more power, but I don't wanna mess with a good
machine by doing that crap to it. It's got lots of more power to be had......it's just finding it,
is where I'm needin to look and hook it up. These are a FANTASTIC machine, I don't know why
people gotta go out and mess with changin a motor. I guess if your a real power head you'd
not be satisfied but for some good trail ridin and some fun field ridin it's fine.
Thank you again !

You got it bud, she is a nice rock solid reliable machine. As for pipes burning a small hole in your plastic, my supertrappe did it too and I had heat tape on the plastic. I recently changed to an FMF megamax and I like it alot better, just as good of flow and you can quite it up with the quite core insert. As for the 20 inch tire I agree she will handle better, but you lose 2 inches of valuable ground clearence. I would just try to find a good rear holeshot with a stiff side wall, I am still running an old pair of holdshots XCT's they're 6 ply which is heavier, but stiffer, the thing I like about holeshots is they corner amazing, grab hardpack crazy and are surprizingly good in mud and loose sand etc.

Glad to hear you joined the red riders

Hey TLR...........How'd you like the Holeshot XCT'S, I was looking into getting a set of them myself.
So you like the FMF, what kinda power increase did you get out of it ? Noticable, I was also lookin there too, but Cobra as well as DG. I'm tryin to find a good rock solid pipe with performance
HP, but yet very friendly to the ears!! LOL. Yeah... I've got plenty of the foil tape layin around for
when I need it. I tell ya I'm lovin this machine already!!! I only had it a day and haven't been out of
the yard with it, just forward & reverse... boy I love the reverse!!! I just sold an LT500R that needed some work, and the cash I got from it, I snatched this up, I tell ya I really am startin to like the 4
stroke thing, especially w/ reverse, no dam mixin fuel, thats an expense initself!!
Just GLAD.. GLAD.. GLAD!!!!!!!

I had a 2002 300Ex with a Cobra exhaust on it, and also had the header. I could tell a difference from the factory exhaust, but not a hole lot.. If your neighboors aren't very sound friendly i owuldn't suggest buying it cause i would say people two miles away will be able to hear it. I also put a set of ITP holeshots on it mounted with Douglas wheels, they gripped really good expecially in tight corners almost too much for it because of its short wheel base. I had a No-Toil air filter on it, which the Honda dealership told me was just as good as the K&N. I have never ridden a 250X but have heard there very similar to a 300EX, hope the info helps.

Yes you were very helpful, thanks. I will stay away from the loud exhausts I think power can
be had in a quiet form as well.
