I assume its the 450, and not the 400.
It should be rock solid and dependable. It has a very good front differential, and very good low end torque.
Not much ground clearance, not very quick, has kind of a stiff ride, and has heavy steering.
How were you planning on using it? Mostly chores, and some trail riding....or mostly trail riding? Dune riding? mud running?

I'm not sure if there are any cons about a Foreman 450S. It really depends on how a person may be using it and their expectations. Sure it would be nice to have things like a locking diff. and a independent rear. But are these things really needed? I have never had a problem with the rear bottoming out and I've never been stuck. (I do have a DG skid and Oxlite a-arm guards.) I ride on a assortment of trail types. (snow, mud, rock, etc.) The Foreman does great. The 2002 and newer models have the selectable 4x4. So this makes the Foreman a little more fun to ride. (Donuts)
In a way, the Foreman is one of the last of it's kind. If you compare the Foreman to a lot of the newer models. You'll notice a difference in the materials used. The newer models have more plastic on them to save weight. The Foreman has a metal skid, metal dip stick, metal push bar. The Foreman is made well. The Foreman is a good reliable atv.
Honda has also reduced the retail price of the Foreman. It used to retail for $6199. and now retails for $5799. If you go to the right dealers. You could probably get a good deal well below the retail price. OTD.
The Foreman was changed to a Torsen differential in 2002. (Torque sensing) This gives the power to the tire with the most traction.

I consider the Foreman to be a good trail quad and a good working quad. It is not a race quad. I use it to move my fiberglass boat around. Mostly I use it on the trails. So far the fastest I've had it going is 55 mph on the stock speedo. Comparing it to my GPS brought a reality of a 52 mph (approx.) top speed. That was pushing it. There seems to be a limiter that kicks in. I could feel something kick in and hold it back.
I've been thinking about getting another new quad. There are a lot of quads to choose from and I really like the search. When it comes down to it. I might just buy another Foreman 450S. It does well where I ride. I have come to know the Foreman and trust it's reliability. I can also get a heck of a cheap price on another Foreman. (It would be used as a second quad.) I guess time will tell.
