Getting a 450R ! ! !
#1
I am selling my CR 250's to buy the new TRX 450R... I have had two TRX 250 R's before too and I loved them... I have never ridden a fourstroke before and I have always doubted them because I was raised to think that two-strokes are faster then four-strokes...I would like to get your advice on what everyone has thought about going from a two stroke to a four and if you liked it or not...I would like to know the comparison of the 250r vs. 450r. I will pry end up buying the 04 trx 450r once I sell my dirtbikes on ebay...Look if you are interested...the ebay numbers are 2485641216 and 2485643932...if i could get those experts opinions on the trx and let me know what there is to know about the bike...such as how often you have to rebuild them and etc. thanks

i have a 250R and a 450R. This will be shocking and declared an almost instant flame, but too me i think the 250R is slightly better in terms of balance and handling. It's also undeniably lighter.
The 450R has impressive power for a 4 stroke. It also has great shocks. However, while the ergonomics of the 450R arent bad, they just arent as good as the 250R to me. To you, they may be great, and thats fine. But I wind up with a disconected, 'hovering' feeling. On the 450R, the center of gravity is higher and the front end is also a little twitchy at high speeds. The 250R is lower, has longer wheelbase and does not feel this unsteady. And the wide gas tank of the 450R- although it looks cool- can get to feel kinda awkward.
Now, I like the 450R - i have one and waited months for it to arrive. It and the rest of the 450s are the lifeblood of the highperformance world now and for the forseable future. But, riding it and the 250R- i gotta be honest, the 250R feels more confidence inspiring. maybe im just more used to it.
But if I were in the market for another 450, i would strongly consider the YFZ450 or the up coming suzuki 450 as well. (oops! sorry fellow honda guys) JMO, buy what you want and have fun.

Kind of a side note when you mention the 250R is alot lighter than a 450R. My son races MX and we have 2 built all aftermarket race quads, both are PRP framed quads, one with an ESR310 motor and the 4 stroke has a CRF450 motor. We weighed the 2 motors, the ESR310 only weighed 2 pounds less, it came in at 63 and the CRF motor at 65. I was quite impressed!!
BTW, after we got the CRF built, my son hasn't even rode the 2 stroke anymore. There is absolutely no comparison in power and in traction on an MX track, the CRF just flat out hooks up much better than the 2 stroke. The big advantage on the track is he does not have to feather the clutch any more like he was constantly doing on the 2 stroke just to keep it on the pipe.
