I will definitely be buying one this week. If the msrp is $6199, how much should I pay.... to get what we would all call a great deal? What can I realistically expect from these salesmen? Will these guys give me more than a free key-chain and a cup of cruddy coffee? I want to buy a new kodi 450 camo and get a great deal, and go tear it up.

Hey Oakland, it will go something like this. They have it marked up with dealer prep, and freight about 600-700 dollars. The camo version is a couple of hundred more dollars too. Plus sales tax, document fees, dmv fees. They'll probably be asking 7200-7300 for the 450 Kodiak. I don't know about you, but i wouldn't pay that much for a kodiak. So you'll have to play the game, go to all the dealers in your area, don't be in a hurry, and just haggle. I went last week to the local dealer, and he didn't have any 05's in yet. That's why i wouldn't get in a hurry, there's that old law of supply and demand. If you catch him with alot of inventory, you'll probably get a better deal. Let us know how it goes. I've got that bike on my list too. I just going to wait to check out the new king quad.

Hey right on....thanx. I called a few and it looks like- at least a month (early september or even october for one guy who only will get one of the camos's.....) We who seek 450's will be waiting a bit. That is part of the fun, i guess. I love buying new. Those first hassle free years are so worth it if you can find a wait to pay for the bugger. A lot of my bros back east would plow snow off of n.j. driveways for the cash to buy gear and get down payments for new ones.
I have read a lot of the solid vs. indy rears posts, and it seems that old school guys who are hardcore quad pilots will be more dissapointed with irs if they are looking to be cruisin quickly and sliding the rear all over.....which is part of the fun of quads. But these UTILITY quads will be better served with irs for sure if they are used for bumpin' around instead of flyin' I would tell people who are buying new to consider "irs" quads more if they are NOT looking to scream down trails and get loose, because the irs IS all about traction and stability, not about breakin her loose on sweeping trails. So you solid axle guys aren't missing too much if you are feelin sporty with your quad. It makes it easier to kick around. But hunters, cooler-toting campers, farmers with mud, dudes who want to cross through really rough terrain- seek irs in your quad. Guys who want to go crazy fast, jump stuff, and sport.....it won't be as important. This is what i have gathered.....

They are already out. I saw a 450 and a 400 last week at the dealer. They wanted 5300 for the 400 kodiac, and 5700 for the 450, Then add 6% and paperwork, for final price.

was it an '05? I guess some dealers get'em sooner than others.....Afte a lot of reading of what yall had to say, I think I am making a really good choice with the 450 kodiak. It just seems like a tough, up to date, reliable sucker. It will be a better way to camp, hunt and the rest with a 4-stroke quad- rather than my kx 250. I plan to check a few things .ie the tranny breather hose that sems to come from the factory barely installed, and will be careful over logs with the seemingly bendable swingarms. Some guy brought his 03 or 04 in to find out there were a few already there for sitting crooked, or resting as if sloped (leaning to one side) because of bent swingarms. we'll see.....I even have a lot of yamaha gear in my music studio (processors, speakers....)They make amazing drums too...just cant wait to get it....
