anyone ever have their air mixture screw seize up?

finally got ready to run the DS again (after the 100 dollar clutch problem, and 90 dollar oil filter) and it was really lean down low...so i went to adjust the air screw and it was REALLY tight...i think i got it a total of one turn before i messed up the lip so bad my flat blade had nothing left to bite on
i do have an extra screw from the extra carb...so hopefully my local shop can get it out (owner said he was going to have to hook it up to his milling machine...)
what would cause this? debris in the threads?
just wondered if i was the only victim or if this has happened to anyone else.

mine was so tight I never did get it to turn at all. I used a sharp pick to scratch the slot deeper. I never did get it to turn, I ended up cutting it in half and digging out the pieces. I ran a tap through it and installed a new screw and it works good now. I just thought mine was sized becouse it was never used. Hope they can fix it for ya.

YES!!! mine is so hard to turn i cant adjust it, i took it out and noticed the screw and the spring are both kinda rusted, so i orderd a new screw and spring, they killd me on the price so i hope the new one would work.
good luck with yours.

well 42.13 later it works smooth as butter. (i am pretty good friends with one of the guys that is a mechanic there, but it was the owner who did the work this time )
i guess he had to hook it up to his milling machine to put a deep slot in it to get it out.
so hmm total in parts for this week:
90 (clutch release shaft and actuator)
42 (carb screw)
89 (new oil filter, as i finally decided its better to have a reuseable one than paying 9 bucks every time)
and looks like my oil pressure switch just went out...
hopefully this is about the end of dumb little repairs! (its probably a good thing i dont like the new 450s, or the DS could have been a trade in about now)

I've had this happen on a Harley (Mikuni carb). I imagine it's corrosion or electrolysis (brass screw in aluminum housing). Last time it got tight, I removed it and put some anti-seize compound on the threads and it never happened again.....

Have you read the plug? Remove it and see what color the porcelain is. Take a look at http://www.nightrider.com/biketech/spkplghnbook.htm#We and see how yours reads.
