stock HP??¿??

I believe MrHP reported earlier this year that they dynoed a stock 04 DS around 46 HP. The 04-05 appear to be making a few more ponies than earlier models. Your not really going to see any gains with a K&N. The stock filter flows just as good.

this probably wont help you but at dunfest there was a tvi720 that a guy put on the dyno it made 62hp.

DSengineer,
Keep in mind that 46hp is NOT a common number that hp research has seen on their dyno, this machine was an exception. Most DSs dyno'ed in the lower 40s. There indeed has been a trend that the newer Bombardiers (at least the 2004 and up) are a little more powerful, and 46 may or may not be the new standard, but I'd bet it is on the higher end of what is coming out of the factory.
I also agree on the K&N, I used my stock filter till it was dirty. Now I have four K&Ns but if I was going to be buying new filters, go for the Twin Air filters - they cost half as much and filter as well or better. Always be sure to have extra filters on hand just in case!

42-44hp was the standard a couple of years ago on a crate (untouched) stock DS650 with American Racer tires, Standard Correction Factor.
These days, all newer ones seem to dyno 44-46hp. There does seem to be a lot less packing in the exhaust, but other than that, I don't know why unless they made a new casting and it was a little better on the head (pure speculation, don't write in the Bible)
Now, you can drop numbers real quick by running knobby tires, installing a Dyno jet kit, self-tuning the DS650, or other mythical power enhancement tricks! Also, running on a dyno that was not intended to be an ATV dyno, or is not internally reprogammable for various applications can result in higher or most likely lower numbers.
If you are dynoing on different days, make sure the operator is knowledgeable enough to put the settings back to where they were on your previous trip. Sometimes, different bikes get different settings on the programming, and never get changed back.
