Default Pulling Exhaust Springs - what do you use?

So who uses what to pull their exhaust springs of the DS? I used vice grips a time or two, that sort of worked until they slipped, then it hurt my knuckles when they banged into the DS. Then I bent a screw driver into a hook and it worked OK, except the fact it is a pain to hold on to. (I've got big hands, and the shaft on the driver had to be small to fit into the spring ok, which means a small screw driver.)

now I've found what seems to be perfect on eBay, and I just got it in the mail today. It's called the spring thing, it is one heavy duty spring puller. It actually fits in my hand and it is certainly beefy.

Anyone else use anything comparable? for $12 plus $2.50 in shipping it was hard to resist.

snap-on spring tool... or you can take a regular screw driver and cut a notch in the side of it and works similar.

I've got a spring puller from one of the mail order deals. Mine isn't so "beefy" though

An old car antenna with a small "J" shape in one end for the spring and a big "D" shape in the other end for my hand. Its works good for me, but my radio recpetion in my truck isn't what it used to be though. needle nose vice grips. I like the J-handle spring puller too though.

Snap-on cotter pin remover . It's made out of square stock , with a 90 deg end handle and a handle that screws into the side , and it has a replacible hooked tip , and that good warranty ! I've never peeled the skin off my knuckles since that purchase !

Snap on tools, man you guys are spendy! My spring tool cost $14.50 after shipping, now what does the snop on tool cost? I saw some spring pulling pliars on their web site for $69.99.

My tool has a lifetime warranty too! (Just like the Snap On!)

we use needlenose pliers or vice grips but we're thinking of making a tool like you just bought, looks simple enough
