couple questions for the belt gurus
#1
I have an 04 650 stock. I ordered the dalton spring kit. I put the secondary spring in and reused the old belt, did not change any shimms. It helped big for a while but somehow I have slipped the belt a little so it is a little choppy. I have a new belt and am going to put it in. here are my questions:
1. what difference will the new dalton primary spring make and should I put it in?
2. what should I do shimm wise?
3. what else should I do to make this the last time I have to fool with the belt?
I am on belt 3 at 210mi my dealership does not know what they are doing, went to another and what little I picked up from listening to you all was more than they knew! I am not overly hard on it, some trail/mud and farm work/hunting is what I need it for. as always thanks for any help! All opinions right, wrong, or indifferent are appriciated!!

arcticcop,
First off let me begin by saying , i'm certainly no belt Guru, or do not know that much about the different springs, except for what i read on these forums. I too own a 650 Arctic Cat that is still stock. I did do a belt deflection check at around 200 miles of trail riding. The belt was loose so i removed the thicker of the 2 shims, this put the belt within the specified limits. The info on how to do this is on this forum, do a search. Nyroc has all the info you need to do this on his site, and it's also available other places, you just have to look around. Kawieriders is another place with good info, as the 650 does have a Kawasaki motor in it, needless to say. I think any new belt is going to stretch some & a little PM will head off a lot of problems. I'm still on my original belt & have no damage to it at all. I do have a Dayco HP2017 in my cargo box as a backup, just in case. If you don't have a service manual i would suggest you get one. It doesn't have all the answers, but it has a lot. I gave $22 for mine & have seen them as low as $19, it's a good investment. I know a lot of guys are buying modules & changing springs & doing other mods for whatever reasons, but i've yet to use all the power my 650 delivers on any trail i've been on, including Moab, Utah, & trail riding is what i do with mine. Regards, Jerico1

I have a module and ride hard and I'm still on my original belt.I have 2300kms on it.I have taken out my thin shim and am thinking about putting it back in and taking the thick one out,its not slipping but I don't want it to either.I don't take off with a feather throttle as I found the belt slips a tiny bit that way,I open 'er up a tad more to engage the belt solid.I was thinking about the Dalton spring kit but I'm thinking now that I don't need it.
