Default 250r coolant temp gauge

Does anyone run a coolant temp gauge on their liquid cooled R? If so, what temp does it run?

I have just finished rebuilding my motor (new crank seals, crank bearings, crankshaft, connecting rod, piston, cylinder head) and I would like to add a coolant gauge as a half a ss attempt at being able to shut it off if it gets too hot. It blew up because it ran lean and got too hot when the outside temp dropped to -15F at the cabin one night while racing around the circle track.

Any help/info is greatly appreciated.

you'd want an EGT or head temp gauge. i dont think an R would eat itself before the water temp would change enough to signal anything.

I run the same ESR and it reads 169-180. I have seen 210 and shut it off AAp to cool it down.
The ESR is expensive but I feel it's the nicest one due to it's construction and it being liquid filled.

trike's seem to run a little hotter than the TRX's when built or have a Pro-x on them

ha ha, good one. Any given powertrain should be faster in a trike over a 4 wheeler. Thanks for the ideas. I agree with half of the EGT and head temp statement. EGT's would definitely be the way to go, but I don't think head temp would tell the tale.

Aren't the EGT systems more expensive? Also, I wish the ESR gauge was in a spot that you could read it while you were riding and not have to get off the trike to read it.

I'll continue to investigate and get back with what I've come up with.

you dont see too many people making aftermarket lightweight frames for the ATC like you do the TRX. and IMO, the TRX has better geometery to get the power to the grnd.

EGT's are more exspensive and can be hindering. from what i hear, the head temp gauges are the best.
