raptor/banshee/lt 500r front shocks
#1
I have read of some quadzillas that use raptor stock front shocks, and since my shocks are in need of replacing and i dont feel like shelling out big bucks for aftermarket ones i was wondering if this really works and what sort of modifications will need to be done in order to run the different shocks. Also if anyone knows of any other front shocks that would fit that could be of use too, thanks.

only one word of warning. Once i put decent shocks on (weak link gone) it exposed other weak points needing attention. First ride after shock swap a ball joint completely seperated. Swapped those, now bushings and tie rods are next. The funny thing is when you fix one sloppy spot, it magnifies how bad another may be.
Either way was a good choce , i rode byron mx park on monday. I was hitting some of the pretty good size jumps wid eopen in 4th gear and the new shocks soaked it all up fine.

Yup I can see that occuring... I'm going to do a ground up revamp of the entire quad, hopefully before next year's dune season. It's not going to get ridden until then at the very least....
What kind of alignment issues did you have to correct?

wasnt really that bad, i got the toe in almost perfect. But like I said, the tie rods now need replcing as well as the a-arm bushings, so a complete adjustment wouldnt do too much good. It would still have flex.

Oh...ok...I thought you meant bushing adjustment on the shock...like grinding them down alittle. I picked this LT up awhile back...it ran for a couple of years as my wifes bike, then I put a Barnett clutch in it... something went inside, and all of the motor oil drained out!!! Kinda spooked as to what I'm gonna find in there.... When I do restore it, I'm going to put a 330 kit in it. I've seen them run, and they're actually faster than a 330 kitted Honda!!!
Thanks for the info!!!

Im no expert on the lt either, only had mine since spring. But yes, the shock bolts right in, no grinding or anything. And i didnt even do the alignment immediately, but after the first time i tried crossing pavement, wow, a bad alignment drags you all over, couldnt keep it straight to save my life. On gravel/dirt was no big deal.
If i was to do it again, id get all the front end parts at once, mine had some back ordered or I would have. With the engine, cant help you. Im a mechanic but no knowledge of 2 strokes. In the winter im just gonna take my motor over to Eric Gorr since his shop is like 25 minutes away Ill let him do the works, while i mess with the chassis.
